What MCP Servers does

MCP is the standard way to give an AI app new tools. This repo has reference servers maintained by the MCP project, such as filesystem, fetch, git and memory, and points to many more community and company servers.

Who it is for

Anyone using Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or Claude Desktop who wants the agent to read files, fetch pages or work with git through a standard plug-in.

How to use MCP Servers with Claude Code, Codex or Cursor

  1. Pick a server from the README, for example the filesystem server.
  2. Claude Code: claude mcp add filesystem -- npx -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem ~/projects
  3. Cursor: add the same command under Settings, MCP.
  4. Codex: add it to the mcp_servers section of ~/.codex/config.toml.

Tip: Only give a server the folders and permissions it needs. Reference servers are examples, not hardened products.

Does Cursor support MCP?

Yes. Cursor, Claude Code and Codex can all connect to MCP servers.
